How Regional Services Have Helped Patrons

Do you have a great story about how one of your patrons benefited from Regional services? (For example: delivery, databases, summer reading programs or interlibrary loan). Tell us!

We'll post it here, tell it to a legislator and make it part of our advocacy toolkit.

Bolton Public Library

A member of our library building committee told me that he's been spending several hundred dollars each year for a specialized publication that covers his professional field. Recently he started perusing the database offerings and found that very publication was available to him online, free of charge! He's happy to be saving the money, looking forward to making more database discoveries, and thrilled that MA libraries are meeting his needs in ways he never anticipated.

Pearle Crawford Memorial Library, Dudley

I was in a bookstore/coffee shop in Webster yesterday and ran into a friend who is a musiciagraphic of music notesn and piano teacher. He told me how he loves being able to search song titles in C/W MARS to request sheet music, which is then delivered for him to the Dudley Public Library using the MA regional delivery service. He tells his students about the service, too.

Townsend Public Library

One of our patrons shared with us her amazement at how quickly libraries can get books from one place to another. She said that she works at Mount Wachusett Community College. She placed a hold from home and when she got to work that same day, the book was sitting on her desk.

Merriam-Gilbert Public Library, West Brookfield

At our library, we call CMRLS the librarians library!
The support that we receive is exceptional. The staff, 99% of the time can find interlibrary loan materials that we have not been able to provide for our patrons.

The staff also provides workshops and information to help us find ways to better serve our patrons through workshops, just answering questions, or brainstorming ideas.

The public has no idea how much we rely on the CMRLS staff. The staff is always courteous, and supplies help promptly. Our small public library is also grateful for the databases that are provided. If we didn't have them, many people would leave without the information they are seeking. I've heard many comments about the databases stating, "What a wonderful resource!" and "This is exactly what I was looking for!" and "This information is even better than I thought I'd find!" and "Thanks for providing the databases. They're awesome!"
