Description:
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Train, organize, schedule and oversee work assignments of staff. Work collaboratively with subject specialists for collection management and materials acquisitions while maintaining fiscal control. Maintain the quality of service for management of serials and monographs acquisitions in all formats including digital resources by using an automated acquisitions system and preparation of fund account reports and other acquisition reports. Provide leadership in the formulation of plans, policies, practices and projects relating to acquisitions. Create and maintain acquisitions related metadata records as required within the integrated library system, such as Innovative Interfaces’ Millennium, and other information discovery and access tools. Manage projects involving electronic resources including the integration of outsourced data into existing management systems. Troubleshoot problems with electronic resources arising from subscription, licensing, or access-related technical issues in collaboration with public services. Establish and maintain positive working relationships with publishers and vendors; conduct vendor evaluation as needed. Search, access, edit, enter and download machine readable data and perform copy cataloging of library materials in assigned formats. Maintain professional growth and development through seminars, workshops and professional affiliations Perform other tasks, as assigned, consistent with the functions of the unit and level of responsibility.

Description:
The City of Worcester, Massachusetts seeks a Head Librarian to administer a library system with holdings of 850,000 items, full time staff of 83, three facilities and budget of approximately $4,000,000. Qualifications: Master’s degree in library and information science from a graduate school accredited by the ALA or approved by the Mass. Board of Library Commissioners. Experience: Ten years of full time professional experience including five years of supervision and senior management in a public library. Desirable qualifications included excellent communication, interpersonal and fiscal management skills and working with appointed and elected officials. Description:
The Blackstone Public Library has an opening for a Library Director to administer, supervise, and direct all activities of library services and other related work, as required. The director’s responsibilities include: planning and supervising the operations of the library programs and procedures, overseeing and monitoring staff, assigning personnel and developing work schedules, maintaining personnel records, and conducting house training of staff and volunteers. In addition, he/she will be accountable for preparing and monitoring the library budget, overseeing payroll and payment of bills, as well as organizing and writing grants for library funding. The director is expected to troubleshoot and manage all areas of the library’s automated systems as well as perform functions associated with a public library, as required, or as a situation dictates.

Qualifications: Master’s Degree in library science from an ALA accredited library school preferred and a minimum of 3 years supervisory experience in a public library. Salary: $47,700. Resumes will be accepted until position has been filled.
